GPRVA National Scorekeeper Candidate Application

*REFEREE REQUIREMENTS*

PROVISIONAL I REFEREE

TO BECOME A PROVISIONAL I REFEREE, a candidate must:

1. Become a Great Plains USAV member.

2. Attend a clinic and obtain a passing score on open-book referee test.

3. Obtain three (3) satisfactory observation, two (2) as a first referee and one (1) as a second referee.

4. Certification should be completed by March 1.

5. Certification expires on January 1.

 PROVISIONAL II REFEREE

TO BECOME A PROVISIONAL II REFEREE, a candidate must:

1. Become a Great Plains USAV member.

2. Be a Provisional I Referee for at least one season prior.

3. Attend a clinic and obtain a passing score on an open-book referee test.

4. Obtain three (3) satisfactory observations, two (2) as a first referee and one (1) as a second referee.

5. Certification should be completed by March 1.

6. Certification expires January 1.

 TO REMAIN CERTIFIED AS A PROVISIONAL REFEREE, a candidate must:

1. Become a Great Plains USAV member.

2. Attend a clinic and obtain a passing score on the written referee test.

3. All Provisional II Referees are subject to occasional reviews by the Referees’ Chairperson or their designee.

REGIONAL I REFEREE

TO BECOME A REGIONAL I REFEREE, a candidate must:

1. Become a Great Plains USAV member.

2. Be a Provisional II Referee for at least one season prior.

3. Attend an advanced clinic and obtain a score of at least 88% on the written referee test.

4. Must take and obtain a passing score on the written scorekeeper test.

5. Complete two (2) scoresheets and turn them into the scorekeeper chair before March 1.  One set should include substitutions.

6. Obtain two (2) satisfactory ratings as a first referee and two (2) satisfactory ratings as a second referee.

7. Ratings must obtained on matches in the 16 Open or on any match in the 17 or 18 division or any adult match.

8. Ratings should be done by National, Junior National Referees or other designated Regional Referees.

9. Certification should be completed by March 1.

REGIONAL II REFEREE 

TO BECOME A REGIONAL II REFEREE, a candidate must:

1. Become a Great Plains USAV member.

2. Be a Regional I Referee for at least one season prior.

3. Attend an advanced clinic and obtain a score of at least 88% on the written referee test.

4. Must take and obtain a passing score on the written scorekeeper test.

5. Complete two (2) scoresheets and turn them into the scorekeeper chair before March 1.  One set should include substitutions.

6. Obtain two (2) satisfactory ratings as a first referee and two (2) satisfactory ratings as a second referee

4. Be available to conduct or assist with clinics.

5. Be available to officiate at Regional tournaments.

6. All Regional Referees are subject to occasional review by the Referees’ Chairperson or their designee.

UPGRADING TO A NATIONAL LEVEL OFFICIAL

The Great Plains Officials Board is dedicated to encouraging and promoting any official who wants to upgrade their certification to a National Level Official.  If you are an experienced official and are interested in upgrading your certification, contact the appropriate officials chairperson for further information.

REGIONAL, JUNIOR NATIONAL and NATIONAL CANDIDATES
Anyone interested in becoming a Regional, Junior National or National Official, needs to complete the region application and return it to appropriate Official’s Chair by January 1.  An application form is available at the Region Office or through the link above.  Prospective candidates will be reviewed by a screening committee to determine a candidate priority list.  In its selection process, the screening committee will consider not only competency but also the demonstrated support of and participation in regional activities.  The Great Plains Region will reimburse the application fee for any successful candidate.


PROCEDURES FOR BECOMING A JUNIOR NATIONAL REFEREE CANDIDATE

1. Be a member, in good standing, of the Great Plains Region for a minimum of 3 years.

2. Hold a Regional Referee rating for at least 1 year.

3. Attend an advanced referee clinic.

4. Attend a major multi-day tournament out of state (experience; travel, room arrangements, scheduling and a national tournament atmosphere) during the season in which they will be a candidate.

5. Contribute his or her time and talents in certifying, mentoring or coaching additional officials in the region.

6. Submit the Great Plains National Application to the region referee chair at least by Jan 1.

7. Once approved by the referee chair, the USAV national application must be completed, with all of the appropriate signatures.  The completed application must be submitted to the referee chair at least two weeks before the application deadline.  The application must include the application fee.

8. The Region will reimburse the application fee for any successful candidate.
 

 GREAT PLAINS REGION REQUIREMENTS

"GOOD STANDING" ANNUAL REQUIREMENTS for CURRENT NATIONAL and JUNIOR NATIONAL REFEREES

1. Be a current member of the Great Plains Region.

2. Attend an advanced referee and scorekeeper clinic.

3. Contribute his or her talents in rating, observing, and mentoring additional officials in the region.

4. Continuously fulfill all yearly National requirements as listed in the USAV Guide.

5. Actively participate in three (3) of the following activities:

- clinician

- rater for a morning or afternoon session at designated adult or junior tournament

- referee for a morning or afternoon session at one of the regional tournaments

- site director or head referee for regional tournament

Additional activities will be paid at the following rates:

- $30 per clinic + mileage + expenses, when necessary

- $30 per rating session + mileage + expenses, when necessary

- $15 per match as referee at regional tournaments

6. Complete two (2) scoresheets and turn them into the scorekeeper chair before March 1.  One set should include substitutions.
 

**SCOREKEEPER REQUIREMENTS**

TO BECOME A PROVISIONAL I SCOREKEEPER, a candidate must:

EVERY SEASON, a candidate must:

1. Become a Great Plains USAV member.

2. Attend a scorekeeping clinic and obtain a passing score on an open-book scorekeeper test.

3. Successfully complete and mail to the Regional office, two (2) scoresheets.

4. Certification should be completed by March 1.

5. Certification expires January 1.

6. All Provisional Scorekeepers will be subject to review by the Scorekeepers’ Chair.

TO BECOME A PROVISIONAL II SCOREKEEPER, a candidate must:

TO BECOME A REGIONAL SCOREKEEPER, a candidate must:

1. Become a Great Plains USAV member.

2. Be a Provisional II Scorekeeper at least one (1) season prior.

3. Attend a clinic and obtain a passing score on the written scorekeeper test.

4. Successfully complete two (2) practical ratings as a scorekeeper.  One (1) game must include subs.

5. Certification must be completed by March 1.

6. Certification expires January 1 of the next year.

TO REMAIN CERTIFIED AS A REGIONAL SCOREKEEPER, a candidate must:

1. Become a Great Plains USAV member.

2. Attend a clinic if deemed necessary by the Scorekeeper Chair.

3. Complete two (2) scoresheets and turn them into the scorekeeper chair before March 1.  One set should include substitutions.

4. Be available to be assigned to conduct or assist with clinics.

5. Be available to help with the Regional Tournaments.

6. All Regional Scorekeepers will be subject to review by the Scorekeepers’ Chair.
