In recognition of Brain Injury Awareness Month, CDC and our partners are working together to spread the word and raise awareness about traumatic brain injury (TBI) prevention, recognition, and response to help address this important public health problem. CDC estimates that 1.7 million Americans sustain a TBI, including concussions, each year
Club volleyball has the unique distinction of being the only sport that is self-officiated. Because of that fact, it is important that all players and coaches know and understand the rules.
Self-officiating not only reduces the cost of tournaments, but is beneficial to players as they develop leadership skills and better understand the limitations of the rules of the game. It is a well known fact across the country that the Great Plains Region is noted for it’s well trained officials, not only their professional officials, but for their player officials and coaches.
However, due to some technical difficulties this year, the coaches officiating requirements will be suspended, starting immediately and for this season only. A copy of the officiating webinar will be available for viewing on the Great Plains website under the Juniors tab/Coaching Requirements. A CD copy can also be mailed to anyone requesting it. This presentation is a great tool for new coaches wanting to understand the USA Volleyball rules and how they differ from the high school rules.
There are also some short training videos for use with your players. These are available on the Juniors tab/Coaching Requirements or directly at www.volleyballreftraining.com
The referee and scorekeeper tests will still be available for your use, but at this time are no longer required. Attendance at an officiating webinar is not required at this time either. IMPACT training is still required for new coaches.
The suspension of the coaching requirement does not eliminate the responsibility of any coach to properly train their players in officiating duties.
All current coaches have been activated and may be added to rosters, as long as their background screening is current and they have completed IMPACT certification. Once you have updated your roster, please send an email to Nathan at email@example.com, so your team can be approved in the Online Tournament Entry System (OTES).
Best wishes for a great holiday season and we look forward to an exciting tournament season
